one place you don’t want to use a comma

Filed under: freecycle, humor — noisedoctor @ 12:01 pm

The subject line of every posting on the Freecycle list is supposed to start with a keyword (OFFER, TAKEN, WANTED, RECEIVED) and then end with the location. Thus, a proper subject line would be something like these:

OFFER: useless stuff: Dinkytown
OFFER: more useless stuff, Somewheretown
OFFER: moderately useful stuff - Mytown

Okay. Now, notice that you can use different punctuation to indicate where the “stuff” ends and the location begins. Normally, this wouldn’t matter. However, if you happen to live in Intercourse PA, don’t ever put a comma between your stuff and your location. Freecycle isn’t for offering those kinds of services.
