Jesus Freak, 10th anniversary

Filed under: music — noisedoctor @ 8:23 am

dc Talk is going to be releasing Jesus Freak 10th Anniversary Edition on December 26th. That takes me back… course, I got to hear the album long before most people. I helped build the http://www.dctalk.com web site to promote the album. Has it really been 10 years? I guess so. The pre-release I got was on… yeah… a cassette. Anyone else remember those?

naturally, we can’t let kids be kids, right?

This week saw a news report from a Mass. elementary school that has now prohibited kids from playing tag, flag football and “unsupervised chase games” during recess. Why? According to the principal, “Recess is ‘a time when accidents can happen,'” Yeah, no duh. Recess is also a time when kids learn socialization, burn energy, etc. If you aren’t going to allow the kids to play at recess, why not just cancel recess.

I know I’m an old fart, but we played plenty of tag and kickball during recess. Did I ever get hurt during recess? Sure. I even had a tooth chipped. Should we have kids, would I support the local elementary school if they pulled this sort of stunt? Of course not. Yeah, kids will get hurt from time to time. That’s why they have a nurse there. It’s part of life. Micromanaging kids and trying to remove every possible thing that might hurt them isn’t the way to go. You might be able to make their life more “safe” but at the price of making their life way less enjoyable and full.

yeah, me too

Two-Sheds Gomer nailed our senators on this one. It’s a hilarious fictitious (I assume) letter we should send to our senators about a bill granting citizenship to illegal aliens willing to pay $2,000 and pay taxes for 3 of the past 5 years. His point? He wants to get in on the deal. Paying $2,000 and then skipping out on taxes for a couple years–that’s a heck of a deal. Not sure the details on the bill, but the letter is great. Definitely worth a read.

back from the land of the steel pan

My wife and I just got back from 2 weeks in Trinidad (where the steel pan, aka steel drum originated) and Tobago–one week on each island.

Aren’t vacations wonderful? I don’t remember anything that I was working on before vacation…
